The Ethiopian Railway Corporation’s leaders attended a training organized by the Railway Institute at the African Leadership Excellence Academy on topics such as Building Financial and Operational Resilience in Leadership, Effective Communication and Stakeholder Engagement, Strategic Leadership and Management Innovation, Critical Thinking and Decision-Making.

The training was organized to address the needs identified by the corporation, which is expanding its projects beyond just railway infrastructure development by launching several business units. These training sessions are valuable for improving work performance and help the corporation enhance its effectiveness by leveraging the expertise gained from the training, stated Mr. Bekele Ato, Chief Officer of the Railway Institute of the Corporation.

Ato Zadig Abreha, the President of the African Leadership Excellence Academy (AFLEX), stated during the training sessions on Effective Communication and Stakeholder Engagement that communication plays a crucial role in determining an organization’s success or failure. He highlighted the necessity for leaders at every level to possess well-developed communication skills, noting that communication should not only transmit a message but also ensure that the message achieves its intended outcomes by focusing on the communication process within the organization. Additionally, he outlined essential points for managers to consider during decision-making processes, providing a comprehensive overview.

In her concluding remarks, Hlina Belachew (Eng.), the CEO of the Ethiopian Railways Corporation, emphasized the importance of the training for managers in different sectors. She stated that this training is crucial for improving decision-making, enhancing internal communication channels, and developing new, innovative business ideas for generating revenue. Furthermore, she noted that the next steps will involve closely working with the Academy to foster a supportive atmosphere for continuous collaboration.
