The Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC) held the National Railway Business Investment summit on October 21, 2025 at Skylight to attract investment and establish partnerships with partners to implement projects designed to grow the sector.

State Minister of Transport and Logistics, Ato Denge Boru said that railway should not only cost-effective but also enable industries to connect with each other, increasing their capacity and enabling our country to have world-class logistics services. We must implement a modern railway system.

“Our goal is to build a sustainable, modern railway system,” the state Minister said, noting that a favorable environment has been created for investors to engage in this sector.

ERC’s Chief Executive Officer, Hlina Belachew (eng), stated that the Corporation’s vision is to make Ethiopia the logistics hub of the Horn of Africa by establishing a nationwide integrated network that connects regions, promotes domestic trade, and strengthens alliances.

she said that the railway lines being built are a symbol of the hope of a generation and the prosperity of the country, and for this to become a reality, “we must strengthen our partnership.”

The corporation engaged in heavy truck parking construction, dry port development, construction and consulting, logistics, and other business activities, and announced that the institution is ready to work with interested companies which engaged in investment work through private and public partnerships or joint ventures.

The corporation’s board chairman, Berhanu Tesfaye (eng.), stated that the railway requires a strong private-public partnership, not a debt burden, but a national asset that generates a sustainable economy and provides lasting social benefits to all Ethiopians.

The African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Engineering, Mrs. Lerato Matabome, stressed the need for Africans to strengthen their ties by developing a transcontinental railway infrastructure. Ethiopia’s railway sector will serve as an example to others and demonstrate that Africa can meet its infrastructure needs on its own.

She also stated that railways are the main engine for Africa to achieve its goals, and stressed that countries should pay attention to the sector.
