AWASH - WOLDIA - HARA GEBEYA RAILWAY PROJECT
The Awash-Woldia/Hara Gebeya Railway Project began construction in 2015. This air pollution-free railway line, operated by electricity, is 392km long. Turk Exim – Bank provided financing for the Awash – Weldiya Railway project. This line is being built with a $1.7 billion by the EPC Turnkey Contract with Turkish Yapi Merkezi and The French SYSTRA MD is working as a consultant.
The railway has 10 substations, 12 caves that are 10km long, 52 different-size bridges; 8 power control stations; 12 radio poles; one main workshop (maintenance center).
This railway line will connect the northern and central part of Ethiopia. It designed to run at speeds up to 120 km per hour.
