Ethiopian Railways Corporation participated in a high-level panel discussion held during the ongoing Infrastructure and Construction Week at the Addis International Convention Center, organized under the theme “Ethiopia Builds: Driving Infrastructure Growth through Innovation, Speed, and Quality.”
The panel, convened under the theme “Connectivity, Infrastructure, Transport, and Logistics,” was moderated by State Minister of Transport and Logistics, H.E. Denge Boru. Discussion emphasized the critical role of infrastructure development in fostering national and regional connectivity, reducing time, costs, and facilitating the efficient movement of goods and services to drive inclusive economic growth.
Chief Executive Officer of the Ethiopian Railways Corporation, Helina (Eng.) Belachew, presented on the “Strategic Importance of Railway Infrastructure.” She highlighted the sector’s contribution to enhancing efficiency through time and cost savings and underscored the expansion of modern, electrified railway systems as a cornerstone of sustainable transport development.
She further noted that The Corporation is implementing a strategic approach to connect key industrial hubs with neighboring ports, thereby strengthening regional integration.
Institutional capacity-building efforts, including the establishment of a Railway Institute to develop skilled professionals, and the formation of a logistics enterprise delivering multimodal transport services.
In addition, the Corporation is diversifying its operations through the creation of business units that provide construction design and consultancy services, reinforcing its competitiveness and contribution to national economic growth.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion, where panelists addressed questions and insights raised by participants.
